Red Dot Sights
Simple description and main advantages of a red dot sight
Red Dot Sight is an optical aiming device with a see-through, non-magnifying
lens on which a red dot reflects. No matter where on the lens the dot is
(whether on the right upper edge, in the centre or on the lower edge), where is
the dot on the target seen through the lens, there is hit. Obviously this
applies only if your red dot sight is correctly zeroed.
The most important advantages include a significant reduction of the time
necessary for accurate target acquisition, open and large view - nothing is
between you and the target, easier aiming in difficult shooting positions.
Technical description of Red Dot Sight principle
Red Dot Sight consists of semi-permeable lens in whose focus there is a
light source of the red aiming point. All beams from
the source which reach the lens, reflect parallely to the optical axis of the
sight and therefore it makes no difference whether the aiming point is located
in the center of the lens during shooting or on the side. The distance of the
lens from shooter's eye is not important either. The shooter perceives the
reflection of the point of the lens as if it was on the target, which is seen
through the lens. Both aiming point and the target can be seen very clearly. The
lens neither magnifies nor reduce. From the shooter's view it looks as if he was
aiming with a laser sight. But unlike these, a red dot sight is really efficient
help to facilitate aiming for more accurate target acquisition. The reason is
that the intensity of the reflection on the semi-permeable lens of red dot
sights is constant, unlike the reflection of laser beam which changes on
different objects in the field.
In most cases, the searching of the laser mark in the field makes the
shooting significantly slower.
Although laser sights are allowed in many new shooting disciplines (e.g. IPSC
shooting), you will never see them at the competition, despite the fact they are
smaller, more compact and cheaper.
This speaks for all. Each competition shooter, after all, wants to be the
best and after first testing of laser sight he will quickly realize that the
reality is far from a movie...!
Available models and application scopes
Our red dot sight has been construed in order to withstand recoils of all
hand guns, including high-performance hunting shotguns, automatic guns and
competition pistols. A warranty of three years applies to all our red dot sights
and their accessories. In 2001 shooters using
won two European Champion titles and two Vice-Champion titles.
Red Dot Sight is available in two basic models which are not interchangeable in
any way.
These two models differ from each other in bottom part of the sight - base.
base with two pairs of replaceable clamping jaws and
four screws. This type of base is used for two models - "U model" or "W model"
which differ from each other in the shape of clamping jaws supplied as a part
of delivery. "U model" can be installed on different types of European
standard dovetails and "W model" to different types of Picatiny or Weaver
rails. If there is a dovetail or rail on your gun, the sight can be installed
directly, otherwise an above mentioned dovetail or rail can be attached to the
gun by a gunsmith. Additional clamping jaws (which are a part of the other
model) may be purchased. For more detailed information, especially about the
shapes and connecting dimensions of dovetails see our instruction manual,
which can be viewed on or printed from our web site - the chapter "Instruction
Manual". Check our mounts for some guns with the mentioned rails of dovetails
in the chapter "Mounts". These two models may be attached
to the gun only by means of enclosed original
clamping jaws!
base with only three attachment screws, which enables attachment by means
of special mounts with three holes. This model is mainly used for IPSC pistols
and enables to mount the sight as close as possible to the axis of the barrel.
Therefore
sights can be used, besides other, also for the pistols in the division
MODIFIED. All below described modifications of this base are available in two
color versions - black and multi-color (also called "parrot"). There are two
modifications - "S" without blast shield and "SH" with blast shield protecting
the lens against being damaged by blasts coming from the holes in hybrid
compensators. Clamping jaws won't fit to these sight modifications.
Mounts for these models are displayed in the section "Mounts".
All models of
Red Dot Sight are available with one of the following dot sizes: 4, 6 or 8 MOA
(minute of angle), 1 MOA corresponding to 14,5 mm at the distance of 50 m (or
0,521" at 50 yards).
